The TPK was spoiled for me before I watched and I found myself looking at how much time was left half an hour into the episode, because it seemed like someone was going to die basically from round 1. It was a pretty devastating episode, with the dice being stacked against them and watching them struggle to come back from a bad start.

Your actions have consequences, and some are severe and permanent like death. However, a TPK is a bit more than just a consequence of death. As the campaign progresses, the party becomes an increasingly important part of the overarching story. Do it again! JK unless your world and DMing style is naturally deadly.
